Hello, I'm Bryan!

Candidate for Marital and Family Therapy Licensure (LMFT-C)

I enjoy empowering children to succeed in life. Successful children are happy and secure in developing age appropriate skills. These successful children get along with their family and friends, and they get along at school. Every child is different which makes them unique and complex. All parents want to successfully launch their children as independent adults, which can be difficult these days. My experience working with youth comes from working every day in the school setting as a school counselor. I take great pride in the successes I’ve seen in the families I’ve served.

Some of the issues I work with include: anxiety, separation anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, anger management, low self-esteem, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), coping with death, adjustments to divorce or a new baby, sibling rivalry, and school issues. I will use different methods of therapy depending on your individual needs. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and child centered play therapy are some of the counseling methods I use in practice. Outside of session, there may be homework assignments, journal writing, reading, art or other methods for self-discovery and expression. Most sessions will focus on self-awareness, choices, problem solving and setting goals for the present and future. Other areas of counseling may include focusing on responsibility, meaning of life, and focusing on your strengths.

Some benefits to counseling include gaining insight into problems, developing positive coping skills and resources, and changing so participating in a life’s daily activities becomes joyful. There are also risks to counseling. As a result of your personal growth, you might experience feelings of discomfort until you adjust to the changes and they become part of your new life. Each child faces their own challenges. Together we will seek a brighter path.

The approach I will take is based on the information you provide and what I learn about you. For counseling to be effective, I believe both you and I must be actively involved in making counseling goals and assessing progress. Efforts to change self-perception, emotions, and behaviors require work in and out of session. Some change will occur quickly and easily but typically changes require slow, deliberate and repeated efforts. I believe in celebrating the smallest victory to give hope and build confidence in the child to help them thrive.

It is important that we are open and honest with each other in order for appropriate counseling goals to be established. A trusting working relationship between the counselor and the client is also important to me. I strive to achieve that collaboration. I am comfortable with clients from diverse cultures and lifestyles. Each child deserves somebody that will be their champion.
