I became a marriage and family therapist because of my love for listening and engaging with people. I appreciate hearing people’s stories and being a part of their process to instill hope, enable growth, and increase self-awareness. We all feel the need to be heard and understood. It can be challenging to cope with everyday life when mental health is ignored.
This can prevent us from going out, socializing, and personal growth. When it comes to successful functioning in the roles we live out, I believe taking care of ourselves is a top priority. This inspires my interest in working with all ages and anyone who feels burdened and marginalized in society, especially racial minorities.
My therapeutic approach is transgenerational and humanistic. The transgenerational approach
shares a way to focus on a rational level with individual family members, rather than an
emotionally reactive one. A humanistic approach looks at the whole person and observes
behavior to identify wisdom, growth, healing, and fulfillment. Through this, we can focus on the
here and now to work toward the goals you seek after. A tool I use to invite helpful change
includes encouraging curiosity to reframe negative experiences into positive ones.
I work with the spirit and mindfulness of Maya Angelou’s words: “People will forget what you said, and people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.
As your therapist, I will provide you with support, empathy, and trust to take with you when you leave our meeting. I hope to build a relationship that you can depend on to help you share your feelings without fear of judgment.
I deeply enjoy working with children, preteens, teens, and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, and life changes. We will process what’s going on in your life and I will value your time through the lens of whatever stage of life you are in.
My aim is not to “fix” you. Using the right tools and techniques, my only aim is to bring out what is already inside of you. We sometimes feel stuck in our situation and feel as though we have to do it all on our own, yet, this is not true. Seeking counseling is a huge and brave step to take and I’d be honored to help you on that journey.
